Our Cadre is a team of experienced fishing guides and instructors are the best in the industry at their craft. You will learn skills, tips, and tricks that will significantly enhance your learning curve and help you improve your stillwater strategies.
We offer an all-inclusive package that include everything you need for an enjoybale stillwater school experience. From the time you arrive at the Reno-Tahoe International airport until your departure time all of your lodging, dining, transportation, instruction, and fishing gear is included in the trip. All you need to bring is an open mind, the eagerness to learn, and warm clothes and sunglasses.
Roll casting is our forte at Pyramid Lake when it comes to indicator fishing, but other casting styles come into play. Learn overhead casting techniques for streamer/beetle deliveries, overhead casting for applications at other lakes, and most importantly how to deal with the wind. All casting skills will be constantly addressed during your entire school session.
Bugs! During your time at the Pyramid Stillwater School we will review all different bug types you will find in lakes. Pyramid Lake itself during the spring is primarily a midge (chironomid) fishery, so we will have an emphasis on this. Can't get mad when you land plus size Lahontan Trout on a midge pattern that could fit on your fingernail!.
We will cover it all. Fly Fishing rods, reels, lines, leaders, swivels, bobbers, and more. This will also include wearable gear...waders, jackets, midlayers, boots, and how to layer in cold weather situations. Pyramid Lake is notorious for sudden weather changes, and we fish in them all so having the right gear on hand is paramount for an enjoyable experience.
The technical name is indicator fishing, we call it bobber fishing, and nothing beats watching a bobber dunk! We will show you all the best practical bobber rigs, how to cast them, present them, and work them. Just because we are on a lake doesn't mean we don't have currents and tides...you will learn how to use that to your advantage. We will also cover the basics of streamer fly fishing, how to tie rigs up, cast them, and the best presentation methods
This is an important element to fly fishing that isn't discussed enough. Effective netting methods in both a team setting and individual setting, plus how to handle trout safely. Learning these skills can make or break your stilllwater adventures...especially when you have a hog at the end of the line.
We have a considerable amount of experience in this arena. Lakes are perceived many to be nothing but a meer pond or puddle, but they are active as any river or stream. Currents, tides, wind, undertow, structure, and food sources all play a part in finding fish....or being where you need to be when they cruise by.
Above all, we want this to be a FUN experience that you will never forget! Fishing at the home of the world's largest cutthroat trout is awesome in iteself, but the experience we offer is way more than that. Great instructors, ice age trout, incredible food and lodging, and learning a lifetime of skills to keep you on the water for years to come.
